I’m Thankful 2014

I looked at the calendar today and realized that Thanksgiving is only one week away.

I don’t know why I thought there was another week before we would gather with family and consume a meal that took my mother several hours to prepare, in less than thirty minutes.

Maybe the fact that I’m not teaching full-time adds to the confusion. After all, you dress a certain way for staff metings, Fridays, or shorter days. My dress is especially casual these days which I realized when my son noticed how “done up” I was because I applied makeup and lip stick.

Maybe it seems impossible to be this far into November because our days have been smoother lately and I’m not holding my breath until the weekends.

There is so much to be thankful for and I know we are blessed. Family members healing from planned surgeries and those miraculously recovering from sudden illness.

We are thankful.

I am thankful for the opportunity to homeschool and I fully appreciate the fact that not everyone is so lucky.

We are thankful.

I am so relieved that my son is in a totally different place this November, compared to last November. I was filled with worry and frustration then and while I still worry at times & we have harder days, the change is obvious.

We are thankful.

I know that just hours after the turkey is consumed and I eat more stuffing and pie then I should, my thoughts will begin to focus on Christmas. I guess it’s important that gratitude comes before gifts.

This year, I want to hold onto the attitude of gratitude longer. A focus on others, those that need help, and ways to simply all of the holiday hoopla.

For now, I am focusing on the ways that I know we are lucky and truly I’m thankful!
